Liz Fakete: Why the NSU case matters: Structural racism in Europe
Across the EU, there is a crisis in governance, and politicians are increasingly seen as unaccountable elites removed from the fears of ordinary people in a rapidly-changing and less secure globalised world. It is the far-right and anti-immigration movements that are benefitting from this crisis, argues Liz Fekete in a talk which will also focus on the growth of an un-democratic and unaccountable Security State. Taking the fight to establish the truth in the NSU case as the model for all future citizen campaigns across Europe, she will argue that only a concerted struggle against all forms of racism (popular, institutional, State) and fascist terror can guarantee Europe‘s democratic future. Before coming to Berlin, Liz Fekete, Executive Director of the IRR and head of its European Research Programme, she will visit the trial in Munich a second time.

Veranstaltungsreihe: INSIGHT NSU – Struktureller Rassismus, die NSU-Mordserie und die Verstrickung der Geheimdienste
Die Diskussion über den strukturellen Rassismus der Polizeibehörden bei den Ermittlungen zur NSU-Mordserie und die verhängnisvolle Beziehung zwischen Geheimdiensten und neonazistischen Strukturen durch sogenannte V-Leute ist bislang nur am Rande und vorwiegend aus deutscher Perspektive geführt worden. Die Veranstaltungsreihe «Insight NSU» will diese Lücke schließen. Die Reihe beginnt am 14. November 2014 mit Liz Fekete vom Londoner Institute of Race Relations (IRR). Fortgesetzt wird sie ab Januar 2015 mit Gästen aus Griechenland (u. a. zum Prozess gegen führende Funktionäre der faschistischen Partei Chrysi Avgi/Goldene Morgenröte), Nordirland (u.a. zur Rolle des britischen Sicherheits- und Militärapparats und protestantischen Paramilitärs im nordirischen Bürgerkrieg), Ungarn (u.a. zum Prozess gegen Neofaschisten wegen der Morde an sechs Roma) und der Türkei (u.a. zum Prozess gegen die Mörder des armenischen Journalisten Hrant Dink und die Rolle der Polizei).
